Response of Lowland Rice as Affected by Seedling Age and Time of Weed Control in Sudan Savana of Nigeria

An experiment was conducted at the Research and Training Farm of Federal College Horticulture Gombe State (10020’N 10030’E) during 2021 rainy season in Sudan Savanah agro-ecological zone Nigeria. The aim research is to evaluate effect seedling age time application post-emergence herbicide on growth yield lowland rice (Faro 44). consisted two factors, namely:- ( 3, 4, 5-week-old seedlings) weed control by 2, 4 weeks after transplanting. Farmer's practice hoes weeding, 7 transplanting as check controls i.e. no weeding). These treatments were factorial combined (3 x 5) give 15 treatment combinations replicated thrice. allocated main plot while sub-plot. Data gathered weed, growth, yield, attributes subjected analysis variance, mean differences separated using Student Newman keuls (SNK ) p< 0.05. result revealed significant due weeding most characters measured. Generally, 3-week-old (3WOS) performed better but par with 4WOS, earlier herbicides 2 (WAT) gave excellent control. highest paddy 8849.4 9517.2 kg/ha, obtained from 2WOS 2WAT. It can be concluded that 3-4WOS seedlings Faro 44 variety early 2wat suggested farmers study area.
